THE ETHIOPIAN CONTEXT
A demographic reality we must address.
Ethiopia is home to over 42 million Muslims—one of the largest Islamic populations in Africa. Yet, fewer than 12,000 citizens perform Hajj or Umrah each year.
This microscopic participation rate (≈0.03%) is not driven by a lack of faith, but by an insurmountable financial wall. High commercial package costs, compounded by foreign currency shortages and inflation, have turned the sacred journey into an exclusive luxury restricted to the top 1% of earners.
